Pat, you need to get back to an i8 because it made your channel. The i8 is actually reliable by bmw’s standards. 3 main problems, the cooling system and tricky bleeding procedure be mindful of leaks, AC compressor which is to empty and recharge with AC oil every 10k mi and high voltage battery internal modules if compressor fails to cool it down (not necessarily the lithium). The rest of the car seem stout and reliable for a complex machine. It also offers a lot of room to work on due to the tiny battery and tiny engine. Had a panamera turbo that was falling apart, rattles, coolant leaks, oil leaks, motor mounts vibrating the whole car, and far more maintenance reqs, parts are more expensive than bmw and can add up quickly. Heck, this is the perfect car in transitioning to a full EV imo. If you can learn to work on this car, you’ll know how to work on EV’s which is the future. Also, the battery isn’t big and can be swapped (maybe upgrade to the 11.1kwh) at home using a mid rise lift.

yeah if your around states that have high electricity prices then of course. East coast will be more expensive. Other states def way cheaper then gas. Also prices of gas in the East coast especially Maryland change a lot and usually going up.

Ev road trip planning means you need to plan to arrive with lowest state of charge ideally around 10% so you can charge longer at top speeds. Plugging at 65% is bad you will get slower speeds as the battery is full. Ioniq 6 has max speed around 220kW. This is what you will get at the best even if you are plugged into 500kW labeled charger. Higher the state of charge gets lower the charging speed gets. Regarding your EV road trip conclusion, try it with Tesla Model 3 and it will change your mind. In terms of better efficiency but more importantly using Tesla Superchargers. Fast, reliable and always available. You arrive plug in and before you reach your phone the car is charging already. No need for credit cards or apps. Btw I drive Kia Niro EV. So I have to deal with the same issues on road trips. The truth is Tesla is the king for road trips in EV

Have a 2007 Cayman S and I absolutely love driving it. Manual gearbox is great on this vehicle. The shove and engine sound inside the cabin from 4000 to 7000 rpm is glorious!

This are completly rusted on my 2021 Crosstrek. I will need to replace them in a year or two....

Always remember your correct units. :) Should only ever charge to 100% when absolutely necessary, the car you have is one of the fastest charging cars gets 10-80% in 18min which is accurate and tested by many. Should arrive at 10% or close to so you get fastest charge rate. Out of Spec with Kyle is a great resource as is State of Charge(Tom) on RUclips for knowledge plus many others such as the Mach-e Vlog with Pat & Liv and of course Ioniq Guy. Don't ever depend on EA either exclusively, once the Supercharging network opens up for Hyundai and other manufacturers EA could be just cobwebs unless they change their hardware to reliable hardware. The Ioniq 6 is a very good car, congrats on your purchase. I'd avoid 100%, unlike what you seem to be doing on this trip, though and charger hop as Kyle has shown is faster as you only charge enough to get to the next charger and arrive with 10-20% closer to 10% though as much as you can.

Hyundai ioniq 6 gets free 30 minutes of free charging at electrify America stations. I have 12 months left on my ioniq 6 limited 2023. I live in Florida and usually find that 1 or 2 chargers not working and at times long lines at the electrify America stations. I use the app to see what’s available prior to going to the charger. Tesla is still the leader with their charging network and they have a dozen or more chargers verses 4 to 6 chargers at electrify America stations. So when my free charging is expired I will not be using the electrify America network. I will be using Tesla network plus I now see Costco starting to install chargers which are way cheaper than EA network.

Great video - I purchased a 2019 Jetta S in Sept 2021. I wanted a manual transmission and the vehicle I bought had only 1200 (yes, 12 hundred) miles on it. In essence, I got a new car for a used car price and manual transmissions are hard to find. My son and I are planning to change the oil ourselves for the first time (30K miles) this week and your video is very helpful. Fortunately, I have the adjustable filter wrench, which I bought when we changed the oil in his Honda Pilot (170K miles) a week or so ago. I have a floor jack/stands and ramps, which I plan to use (i like that quick jack though). I went to the VW dealer so I have a new drain plug/crush washer ready and I work at AutoZone so I was able to get a discount on oil+filter. Like saving money. Subscribed because I intend to keep my vehicle long-term as well. Keep up the good work!

I just did my annual service and my car had a check engine light and they said it was because of this issue and that they needed to replace the fuel pressure module that controls it . They quoted me $2700 . If I just block the hole so that the fuel tank does not latch and reset the error code would that solve the issue or is there any other issue that will come from it?

Nice Cayman S you have, enjoy. Do your white gauges turn matte silver when turning the lights on at night? I ask, as I have a 2nd gen Cayman S and they change as I mentioned.

Can i ask why did you change cam adjusters. I have a 2.7 caymen and im sure they dont work . My 2.5 boxster delivers power totaly different and sounds much better

I won't be using these I think I just need a piece of plywood and then I should be fine. Or I can just have a guy come out and see how much it would cost for them to fix the drive way ramp. We got a new car and the fender keeps hitting it going out of the drive way not so much going into the driveway.

Good gravy. If I was facing a $10k labour bill I think I would buy a lift. Then buy one of those $6,000 engine lowering tables. Then do a course on working on EV's safely. Then do the work myself. Well, you know, I think I'd do that :) But really, sounds like you have to keep $1500 per annum aside every year to build up a fund for preventative maintenance for this item. Scary times .... But I still would love one. What's wrong with me ha ha !

Sounds like the recommendation when you buy a new laptop : 100% charge and discharge to 0% when new ( or when you put in a new laptop battery ) at the beginning. This allows the laptop to know the battery performance, and so give a more accurate reading for battery state of charge %. My new Lenovo laptop stops charging at 80% which is a new laptop feature for me. I don't know why phone chargers can't be designed to do the same thing. All the best from Prague !

I would really like one as I think 10 years on, they still look fantastic. But of course, this big issues scare my rational brain. The other thing I don't get with it is, if you're going say 100kmh and the battery goes to zero, then the engine kicks in. But then isn't the engine going from stone cold to running at high revs under load. Surely that can't be good for the engine. Note : As you probably guessed, I know nothing

To be fair, given that other manufacturers have made hybrid “supercars” similar to the i8 with better performance, it’s not too farfetched to say. The EQS, Model S, E-tron GT, and Porsche Taycans all have better stats across the board for similar pricing. Even the E-ray (I know it mentioning more recent vehicles but the points still stands)

Now I understand why BMW discontinued this model. The i8 was a nightmare to the warranty company. Just those 3 repairs he described would have been 10k+. All covered with $0 out the door to the customer. That was obviously not a recipe to make profit for BMW.

The lack of reliable infrastructure is what keeps me interested in an M3. Finding a working charger in many states can be a challenge. It's like when they go down they just leave them broken. Makes ZERO sense.

I use Max 2k clear on my carbon fiber, gives it a great finish that lasts.

Take a can of Matte clear and spray it in a cup. Use a brush to apply.

You can remove the ball joint from the knuckle easy peasy like in about 10 seconds if you go in from the top down with an air hammer just put your impact surface of the air hammer on top of the control arm a few inches from the ball joint and hit it about 5 seconds with a good air hammer, it'll come out like gravy, even in the rust belt called Chicago.... Ohh but be sure to wear hearing protection or keep your head out of the wheel well when air hammering the noise is extremely loud to the point you can feel the hammer pressure on your ear drums... NOT GOOD for your hearing.

Hi Pat, my 2015 with 50k miles had an aircon service via BMW last December, no issues. because of the cool weather I’ve not had to use the cooling but always have the aircon on. Today was a hot day, turned up to max when I got in the car, just non cooled air. No noises, no warning lights, nothing. Could it be the compressor?
